Huntlee's project plan initially provides for up to 5,600 homes in four villages, the first of which is Katherine's Landing. In newer homes the usual jobs are new linings for extensions and granny flats, square-set finishes and repairs to small settlement cracks.

The plastering stage of a secondary dwelling: walls, ceilings, edges and wet-area board.
Read the job guideHuntlee's housing is made up mostly of newer separate houses, with few of the older homes found in established areas. This mix influences the types of plastering work commonly required, such as relining after renovations or addressing minor cracks from settlement. Older homes in the area are less common, reducing the need for extensive water damage repairs.
Newer homes often have simpler layouts, meaning plastering work focuses on clean edges and smooth surfaces rather than complex repairs. The absence of older structures means fewer issues with historical water damage or uneven surfaces from past modifications. This allows for straightforward planning and execution of plastering tasks.
The planned development of Huntlee as a new township means homes are built with modern materials, reducing the need for traditional plastering techniques. Most repairs involve standard plasterboard lining or minor patching. This consistency helps us prepare efficiently for each job.
Kitchen renovations often leave behind gaps and imperfections around new cabinetry or fixtures. The process of removing old linings can expose underlying surfaces that need smoothing before new plasterboard is installed. This ensures the new walls and ceilings match the design intent of the renovation.
We focus on creating neat transitions between old and new surfaces, avoiding visible seams or uneven finishes. This involves careful taping and jointing to align with the new layout. The goal is to maintain the visual continuity of the renovated space.
After installing new plasterboard, we apply a smooth finish suitable for painting or wallpapering. This step ensures the walls and ceilings are ready for the next stage of the renovation without delays. Proper preparation prevents future issues with peeling or cracking.
Cornices in local homes often show wear from minor impacts or moisture exposure. Common damage includes cracks, chipped paint, or loose sections that need attention. This is especially true in areas where walls meet ceilings, as these junctions can be vulnerable during renovations.
When repairing cornices, we assess the damage to determine if a partial replacement or full reinstallation is needed. Minor cracks may be filled and smoothed, while larger sections require new material. The focus is on matching the existing style to maintain visual consistency.
The process involves removing damaged sections carefully to avoid further harm to the surrounding wall. New cornices are then installed with precise attention to angles and alignment. This ensures the room’s design remains intact without visible disruptions.
Newer homes in the suburb can develop small cracks due to natural settlement. These often appear in corners or along walls where structural movement occurs. While not always a concern, they can affect the finish of walls and ceilings over time.
We address these cracks by filling them with a suitable compound and applying a smooth finish. This prevents the cracks from widening and ensures the surface remains even for painting or wallpapering. It’s a simple step that avoids future rework.
Settlement cracks are typically minimal in newer builds, so the work required is straightforward. We focus on precision in the filling and finishing to ensure the result blends right with the existing surface.
Water damage in local homes is less common due to the newer construction and modern plumbing systems. However, minor issues can arise from leaks in kitchens or bathrooms. These leaks often lead to discolouration or softening of plaster surfaces.
When assessing water damage, we check the affected area thoroughly to determine the extent of the repair needed. This includes removing damaged sections and ensuring the underlying structure is sound before applying new plasterboard or plaster.
The focus is on preventing further damage by addressing the source of the leak. We ensure the repair area is fully dry and stable before completing the job. This approach keeps the work efficient and effective.
