Plasterboard work involves two main stages. Sheeting is the process of installing the boards to the wall or ceiling frames. This creates the basic structure of the room. We handle the sheeting and relining of walls and ceilings for homes, extensions and granny flats.
Setting is the next step. This involves taping the joints and applying plaster to the seams between boards. Setting hides the gaps and creates a flat surface. We provide setting and finishing to prepare walls for paint, including square set and shadowline edges.
Homeowners often wonder if a ceiling needs a patch or a full replacement. Small cracks or a few holes usually only require patching. These are common in older homes as the building settles over time.
Full replacement is usually necessary if there is widespread water damage. If large sections of the plasterboard are sagging or crumbling, relining the entire ceiling is often the most practical option. We handle ceiling replacement and water-damaged wall repairs.
Different rooms require different types of plasterboard. Wet areas like bathrooms and laundries need moisture-resistant linings to prevent damage. We install wet-area linings to ensure the walls can handle the environment.
Some areas of a home require acoustic plasterboard to reduce noise transfer between rooms. Other walls may need fire-rated linings for safety. We also provide solid plastering and rendering for those who need a different finish than standard boards.
To help the work move forward, it is useful to clear the area. Move furniture away from the walls and ceilings. Remove curtains, blinds, and wall hangings. This gives us space to move and protects your belongings from dust.
Covering floors with drop sheets is a standard part of the process. If you are having a full relining, removing any loose debris from the room beforehand helps. This ensures the new boards can be fitted tightly against the frames.
The time a job takes depends on several factors. The size of the room is the main driver, but the type of finish also matters. For example, square set edges often take more time to finish than standard cornices.
The condition of the existing walls also plays a part. Patching a few holes is quick, but removing old linings and relining a room takes longer. The amount of drying time needed between coats of plaster also affects the schedule.
When asking for a quote, providing clear details helps. Include your suburb and the type of room. Mention if the job is for a renovation, a new extension, or a simple repair. This allows for a more accurate assessment of the work.
Photos are very helpful for remote quotes. Take a picture of the whole wall or ceiling and a close-up of any damage. Mention the approximate size of the area in metres. You can call or text 0406 194 525 to start the process.
