Plastering for new builds and extensions

We handle plasterboard sheeting and setting for new construction projects. This includes all walls and ceilings where plasterboard is the chosen lining. We work closely with your framing professionals to ensure the layout matches the plans. The sheeting stage requires a level surface and proper spacing between studs.

For extensions and granny flats, we coordinate with your builder to align the new sections with existing walls. This includes matching the height and alignment at junctions. We prepare the surface for the setting stage, which involves taping and finishing the joints. Clear communication on the layout prevents issues later.

Our approach is to fit right into your construction schedule. We don't require specific tools or equipment from you. We bring all our own materials and tools to the site. This means there is nothing you need to supply for the plastering stage.

Understanding fire and acoustic requirements

When your project includes fire-rated or acoustic plasterboard, we need to confirm the specific product requirements. These are usually specified in the building plans. We cannot assume the grade or type without clear documentation. Using the wrong board could cause problems later.

We work with the materials you supply or recommend suitable options based on your plans. Fire-rated linings are typically specified between a garage and the house, or on walls shared between dwellings. Acoustic boards are typically specified on walls between bedrooms and living areas, and between dwellings. Both types require careful handling during installation.

For wet areas like bathrooms, we rely on the plans to confirm the correct lining. We avoid making assumptions about the specifications. This ensures the work meets the intended purpose without rework.

Preparation for plastering work

Before we start, we need the site to be ready for plastering. This means removing any furniture or obstacles that block access to the walls and ceilings. We also need clear access to all rooms and the ability to move tools and materials around safely.

The frame must be straight, dry and free of debris, with noggings where the sheet edges will land. On a relining job, anything loose on the old surface comes off before the new sheets go up.

We ask you to provide the exact locations of electrical outlets and light fixtures. This helps us plan where to cut openings. The electrical and plumbing rough-in needs to be finished before we sheet, and the frame complete.

Project timing and coordination

We schedule plastering work after the framing is complete and before the final paint. This allows us to work on the surfaces without interference. We coordinate with your other trades to avoid delays. For example, we don't start until the electrical rough-in is complete.

We discuss your project timeline when you call. We provide an estimated completion date based on the size of the job and the site conditions. Working days are agreed before the job starts.

We ask that you let us know if there are any unexpected changes to the schedule. For example, if another trade is delayed, we can adjust our work to match. This keeps the project moving smoothly.

What to include in your quote request

When you call, share the project suburb and the approximate size of the area. Include the ceiling height and any special requirements like cornices or shadowline edges. We don't need detailed drawings, but a rough sketch helps us understand the layout.

Let us know if you need the plasterboard to be cut to size or if there are any custom details. For example, if you want a specific finish at the edge of a ceiling, we need to know before quoting. We avoid making assumptions about these details.

We also ask about the access to the site. Can we move sheets freely between rooms? Is there a secure area to store our materials? These factors affect how we plan the work.

Finishing details and specifications

We handle all standard finishes like VJ panelling, plasterboard sheeting, and setting. We don't do painting, and we don't do decorative or special finishes. This means we focus on clean, simple lines that match the plans.

For example, if your plans specify a square set edge, we prepare the area accordingly. If you need shadowline edges, we ensure the joint is properly finished to create a clean line. We don't add anything extra without your approval.

We rely on your specifications to guide the finish. If you're not sure what to include, we can discuss the options during your call. This ensures we meet the intended design without confusion.
